The brief
Two years after the success of the Le Divan bookstore, found on Rue de la Convention (Paris 15th), and after having already entrusted us with the renovation of the Librairie Gallimard on Boulevard Raspail (Paris 7th), the Madrigall / Gallimard group once again called on Lonsdale to renovate its bookstore dedicated to young people: Le Divan Perché.
Our recommendation
Lonsdale renovated the 180m2 space to make it brighter and more spacious. Visible from the outside, the new layout highlights the vertical volume of the bookstore and allows light to stream through the windows. At the front of the store, the reception offers an array of stationery and showcases new releases. The games and classics sections are also found at the store entrance. The view then opens onto a gallery of themed alcoves: creative hobbies, school, toys, books, up to the “Nid des Petits” for the 0- to 5-year-olds. At the back of the shop, Lonsdale created the Kids’ Auditorium, a large area where children can play, discover and listen to readings. Le Perchoir, visible from the window and located on the mezzanine, offers comics, games, novels and documentaries for readers aged 6 and above, as well as a creative workshop.
Throughout the bookstore, the materials and soft colors create a cocoon, speckled with more vibrant colors (poppy red, nasturtium orange, etc.). Since it reopened, Le Divan Perché offered over 20,000 titles, making them stand out with well-chosen lighting. The bookstore brings the neighborhood back to life by offering workshops and – like Le Divan across the street – meetings with authors. People go there to stroll, get advice and have a good time – it is a colorful, comfortable place, a real living space that is accompanied by new commercial success!
