The challenge: to preserve the identity of the Librairie Delamain, which has seen Colette, Cocteau, and many others pass before, while rethinking the layout to make it easier for customers and staff to move about. The agency reorganized the customer journey and store passage so that visitors may stroll around amongst the abundance of books effortlessly. By moving the checkouts, previously positioned with their backs to the entrance, the bookstore now offers customer-facing counters, showcasing portraits of famous persons who have visited the premises.

The woodwork on the walls was fully restored and the central furniture redesigned to improve the store’s look and feel without jeopardizing its existing universe. New lighting softens the atmosphere and enhances the offer with hanging lights, here and there, exuding a library spirit.

The children’s section was small and not very visible until now, so the decision was made to paint it all in white and almond green to attract the eye and make it stand out from the rest of the store. The front windows were worked and harmonized for better visibility inside the store and to highlight new releases/ publications. The basement’s entire staff area has also been completely redesigned to create a pleasant and optimized working environment to manage the reception of merchandise, old books, and even archiving.
